WHAT IS CATECHESIM?

The term catechesim comes from the Greek verb katecheo: This word originally meant "to call in advance" (ex alto), also "cause echo" (kata = advance, echeo = read, speak). Subsequent meaning: to teach (the voice of the teacher is aware of the kind of questions the student echo and answer student - an echo of the teacher). The latter explanation is important because it indicates that the instruction, which is catechesim, shall be made not only as one-sided as the lecture, but also by way of conversation, through questions and answers.

OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of catechesim, which is subordinated to all the others, is not only an encounter with Jesus, but the union, and even deep intimacy with Him. Catechesim, thereforein its objective, is Christocentric. Because Jesus Christ is united with the Father and the Holy Spirit, it stems from Christocentrism theocentrism. The union of Christ with the Church and people, his brothers, in turn, implies ecclesiocentrism and Christian personalism. Catechesim should lead to obedience of the Father by the example of Christ and to profess the faith of the Church. Therefore it calls for not only individual human reference to God and understanding of the implications with answering the call to faith, but also needs to be sure that this faith could evolve and improve the community of believers, because I beleive and we believe are mutually exclusive.

The overall aim of catechesis - communion with Jesus Christ - is achieved through the implementation of the objectives of partial and indirect, associated with a situation in which the actual recipients of catechism they live and grow. Hence the urgent need to build on the primary aim of the Church's catechetical programs. Specific objectives include catechism of adults, adolescents and children, updated the existing ones and adapting them to the current situation of pastoral ministry. This requirement also applies to formulating and defining the purpose of religious education in parish schools.
